I've been waiting to hear back on a submission from June and I woke up in a jolt this morning because I realized that I may have forgotten to include a SASE.

Their webpage says they take an average of 8 to 12 weeks to respond. Has this happened to anyone before? Do you send a SASE along later? AUGH!

If you've included an e-mail address in your submission then it shouldn't be a problem. If you didn't, sending a follow-up e-mail asking for the status (and maybe explaining that you forgot your SASE) wouldn't be out of line.

If they're interested in purchasing your story, a missing SASE shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Give it to mid-October and assume it is a no. But odds are you included the SASE and you'll get it soon. By the way, those are for the rejections, they accept in another medium so don't even worry.

IME the SASE is so they can send the manuscript back to you if they reject it and you want to resubmit to another market rather than the reply to say you've been accepted/rejected. In the markets I have submitted to that had this, I've generally mentioned that it is ok for them to recycle the manuscript once they have finished with it (though this was for shorts so printing out a couple of pages is nothing whereas an entire novel is a lot of paper to waste).

I doubt they will reject on this basis.

I've had agents ignore my SASE and never respond.
