hi all, my name is david h. breaux. since june 3rd, 2009, i stand on a street corner and ask people to share their written concept of the word compassion in a notebook i carry at all times. through suggestions and much help from the community of davis, california, i self-published a book at the end of february 2011 entitled Compassion: Davis, CA.

i'm originally from duarte, ca and earned a ba from stanford university in urban studies with a focus on community organization. guess i joined this site to see how other self-published authors go about distribution and advertising for hard copy and ebook formats. i'd love to get to know others and the work their doing as authors and how/if that work translates into action on a social level. what i do started as a larger vision to increase awareness of compassion, and being able to create this first book came through grace and a lot of community involvement. if you asked me 3 years ago if i'd self-publish a book, i would of laughed!

btw, any coffee at this water cooler?

Aaaaah! There's something in that coffee!

That being said, welcome! Your project sounds very interesting, kinda sorta like a literary "free hugs". I like it! :)

Cool David!

Hope you'll post what you learned about compassion or some of your favourite entries. I'm brand new here, like you, and I think it's going to be fun.

Sounds very cool. I would like to check it out sometime. You might want to see if anyone would be interested in reviewing your book and then posting the review on their blogs, where you are selling the book and all that good fun stuff. Lots of work ahead of you, but worth it!

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

to evolver109--what i learned about compassion from asking people about it for over two years and reading about 6,000 entries people have shared? there are 4 components--listening, acknowledging, understanding, and then taking ACTION!

my favorite entry:
Compassion is listening to your son talk about Star Wars and staying interested in the function and structure of power couplings.
