Billy Collins, former US Poet Laureate, is presenting a poem a day for 180 days. It's sponsored by the Library of Congress.

"Poetry 180 is designed to make it easy for students to hear or read a poem on each of the 180 days of the school year."

http://www.loc.gov/poetry/180/

The first poem is one of his but I think the rest are all from other poets.

The project is aimed at high school students, but I think I can still relate and hope to gain some insight into different poetry styles. Maybe 180 days from now I'll have a better grasp on things.

Cool idea. I get a kick out of reading what the poet laureates are up to or have been up to. It would be wonderful if some of these efforts reached a lot of people.

Poem #1 is wonderful. I may end up reading them all tonight.

Thank you, juniper, for pointing us to this site.

I'm almost through the teens now, and really enjoying them. They're easy but delightful reading. I'm glad to have found your thread, juniper. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this site! I'm well past my teens, but I'm completely in love with these poems.

Nothing wrong with the poem a day concept

Great exposuring kids at that age to poetry

glad some one has done it

there is something wrong with government funding of it, and about a million other things they are using to build the debt.

After Poetry 180... you can always tune your radio to a local PBS radio station and listen to Garrison Keillor's 'Writer's Almanac' for your daily poem. He's only been doing it for about a decade or so...
