I'm trying to find out what the weather would have been like in Northern Germany in November-December 1945. I have found a site called http://www.tutiempo.net/en/ which has records for most years. There is a gap from 1943 to 1949 (I can probably guess what happened to the German official weather service). I can take an average from the surrounding years.

My main question is: Can I rely on these records and where are they getting their information from?

Does anyone have any suggestions for other reliable sources?

I got a rough weather report for London for each day of January 1810 by reading a gentleman's magazine published in February 1810.

Can you get hold of newspapers or magazines from those years for a Northern German city? (Assuming you read German.)

It's the...

war years. The UK certainly did have met info re Germany 'cos of bombing raids etc for allied aircraft and invasion threats etc.

Would the appropriate museums have info?

That's my next port of call. The National Archives near London will probably have something useful.

I tried e-mailing the Met Office but all the person who answered seemed not to have read my e-mail. They have historical records for the UK but I'll have to ask again about Germany.

For my now completed WIP set in the 9th century Carolingian Empire, a chronicler recorded very interesting weather pattersn and oddities that suggest Iceland's volcanoes went berserk in the early 820s. Recorded eaccounts help for any wera.
