On my list of ways to save a file nothing is listed as *pdf. What other term is used for that? Am using xp word program. I have a couple of files that need to be in the pdf form. Right now they are saved in word text. One is a picture and one is a word file.

Thanks gang......sigh.

Which Word are you using? Word 2003 required a plug in to save as pdf, while Word 2007 had one included. The plug in was easy (I think it was on the MS website).

I was going to suggest Open Office, but a quick check shows it doesn't save as pdfs. Interesting, I thought for sure it did.

Turns out OO does; it's at a button at the top and not in the "save as" options.

For Word 2003 you need to download a plugin off the internet. It only takes about a minute.

In Open Office, the "make pdf" button is on the top ribbon of icons, for me it's right next to the print icon.

Often it's not under "save as" but under something like "export" or "convert to pdf."
