Moving Stories?

Does anyone know if any stories that are published as a moving 'picture'? For example a powerpoint-type video where the words flash up on the screen, reading the story for you as it were?

Never heard of it, but why would anyone do it? It sort of assumes that everyone will read at the same speed, and a uniform rate.

Yes, the idea would be to have some kind of twoddle to adjust the speed. I guess I was thinking it might be for very short pieces and directed an audience who might not otherwise read.

Well, then it wouldn't need the words to move along, one at at time. Just a page on the screen, and the voice reads along. Basically, an audio-book, with a screen for anyone who wants to follow along. (Alternatively, buy the audio-book and the written version, and boom, you've got it.)

I believe there are children's educational toys that work as you suggest, the child touches a word and the device says the word aloud, but I suspect they aren't used much once the child starts actually reading. The ones I've seen are sort of first-reader level. I would think that even for illiterate adults, it would be more annoying than helpful, and once you know how to read, the words would be a blur of screen changes.

Something that worked the other way: whole page on screen, touch a word and the device says it, would be helpful, for children and adults making forays into more advanced books, where they may run across the occasional new word. Can e-readers do this?

Yes, you are perhaps right that it would be annoying. How I imagined it was words or phrases appearing on the screen one after the other to guide the reader. I think I was probably thinking for people who don't like reading but do like watching (on youtube and stuff like that). I should probably have a go of my own in powerpoint or something and see how irritating it is!

Yes, a short poem would do the trick as an experiment. I will see what I can knock-up!

Yeah, that is exactly it! I think it looks and reads great. What do you think? And what did they use to do it do you think?

There's a javascript thingie that slowly scrolls text up the screen. You can adjust the speed (and the font size). It's been around for years.

Google on javascript auto scroll for more.
