How in the world...

Can someone find an agent to represent a childrens book? I have gone through tons of listings and the few I do find aren't excepting submissions. Can anyone help me with this? refer an agent? or suggest a good place to start?

Are you talking about picture books or children's 'novels'? There's a big difference. You're right, not many rep PB's. Just about the same amount that rep childen's fantasy (although I do see more ever since HP came on the scene - everyone wants a piece of THAT pie). Do you have the Children's Writers and Illustrator's Market? There's not a ton of listings in there, but there are also publishers too, so you can go right to the source.

Honey Nut Loop, I myself live in the United States but would love to see The Dragon and the Raincoat available wherever it can be.

Christine, No I don't have the Childrens Writers or Illustrators market but I would love to look at it if you could point me in the right direction.

I do agree there is a big difference between pictures books and childrens novels. My book I think would fall in a odd between place as it is meant to grow with the reader in a series.

Hi Jason,

I'm in the same boat with you, I've been looking for an agent to represent my children's picture book stories for over a year now. I've read many times this year though that until you have a book published no agent really wants to waste their time on you. It's the old catch 20 I guess. So personally I'm going to quit wasting my time with agents and go straight to publishing companies and try to sell the manuscripts myself.

I'd love to have an agent too but the main point is to get published. Maybe you should try submitting straight to the publishers and see how that goes? Good luck!
