Nope.
Might be good since Ridley Scott does a good job making his movies gritty and real. But we'll see. It probably won't have Vangelis's epic score, though.

I've been waiting for movies to come out on DVD before I see them, so maybe I'll be able to get all 15 versions of this in one swell foop.
I worked on two Criterion Collection Laser Discs of Blade Runner, different versions.
It was enormously fun—but someday I want to see the film in a theater. I never have.

Come to think of it, I haven't either. It's always been on TV in one form or another (cable movie channel, VHS, DVD).
I like Ridley Scott's work, and I thought Blade Runner a very good adaptation of Dick's novel. But this new effort will need to be damn good. Possibly the best thing to come out of it might be a further boost to PKD's growing literary reputation as one of the more significant figures in fiction over the past half-century. Maybe somebody will take on some of his other work for cinematic treatment (The Man in the High Castle, Now Wait for Last Year, A Scanner Darkly).

The book is VERY, VERY different from the movie, for several reasons, not the least of which is that the book has no Replicants. The story the written for the film is still excellent, and if it's the same people, I think they could come up with a good story for the sequel, even if there is no book to base it on.
Haven't seen it, but I need to. I'm still ????? about your Androids comment.

The score was perfect.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I loved Blade Runner.
The book is about androids. There are no androids in the movie. It's actually a very different story. That's all I meant, really. "Blade Runner" was barely written by PK Dick, because there was no Blade Runner in his book.
I'm sure Dick wrote some stuff within the same universe. Total Recall? Minority Report? On the Final Cut commentary with Scott, he says that he likes to think that Alien is the same universe as Blade Runner, and that he could easily imagine the space truckers coming down from orbit and having a drink at the snake pit.

I don't think I'll bother with it. I hate when people mess with classic films that I love. And I love Blade Runner.

I really, really see no reason for this. I love the film (was less enthusiastic about the book, but so it goes - also think we're quibbling semantics here with the whole androids/replicants thing) - but...
It would have to be like this new Thing prequel. Where they leave the original alone, but stay true to spirit of the first while following some tangible lead/tie-in to the first.
Maybe we could find out what happened to that sixth replicant? Or what Gaff was doing the whole time? That would be something I would watch.

Yes. If you've read the book, you'll know that 'Bounty hunter-type character vs. artificial humans' is pretty much all they have in common.
Electric Sheep is an awesome book. Blade Runner is an excellent movie, but it would be best not to think of it as a direct adaptation of the story. In that sense, the film is open to any sequels/prequels they can think up. Personally, I'd rather see the original story on screen.
So... We're not going to mention how unspeakably bad the Blade Runner television show was? Or how the K.W. Jeter novels were kinda meh?

*snort* The different versions of Bladerunner, plus the book kept me and my undergraduate English/lit & cultural studies companions busy back in the day.
I pretty much had to analyze some form of Bladerunner every year.
