I'm looking at getting in contact with a TV show here, which looks at sport, lifestyle and culture aspects around sports such as surfing, freestyle motorcross, BMX, skateboarding, and such. The show targets a teenage audience (I reckon about 13-20 or so) which comes into the target for my book.

I want to contact them and see if they will do a review or even an interview. The show isn't in production at the moment, so I've got a little bit of time to get my crap together.

Thing is, I'm not really sure how to pitch it! Obviously, I go in with a fresh copy of the book, but would there be anything else I would need to give them. Do I put together a "media kit" kind of thing? Most of the ones I've seen seem to consist of 48 minutes of bullshit and 12 minutes of commercials.

Any and all tips would be gratefully received!

PS: I think I posted in the wrong section. Many apologies. I think this needs to go into "Book promotion ideas and advice". Thank you.

I was interviewed by Phoenix's highest rated morning news show, Good Morning Arizona for the release of my novel Scorpion Bay in April. Pitch the producer and make it more than a book release. If you can link it to something newsworthy. Good luck.

Do you have an agent? You're likely to be taken much more seriously if your agent does the pitch. Mine is in the process of pitching the optioning of TV rights for my forthcoming book to a major cable network, and she did stuff with the pitch letter I would not have thought of. Unless you have a major "in" with a producer or other executive, I think you'd be better off finding an agent first before pitching to TV.

Thanks guys.

I should have explained earlier that I have done the research and found out who I need to address things to, etc. Being self-pubbed and not already a famous actor/writer/sportsman/politician, I've got Buckley's of getting an agent at the moment.

I'm more interested in getting information I should include in my media kit. Maybe stuff like what bookstores are stocking it, previous media about me and the book I've done before, that sort of thing?
