So my main character starts at age 20 then the story moves up to 18 years later. Would this still be classified as YA or Urban Fantasy?

A 20-year-old protagonist is really too old for a conventional YA novel, I think, and 38 years old is a definite no. It sounds like an urban fantasy for adults. :)

Agreed.

It is possible for YA protags to be over-18, but 20-38 is really pushing it, even if it's a teen voice.

My agent suggested dropping my MC's age from 18 to 17 would keep from alienating some of the YA market, if that helps.

I agree with the others. ;)
