I do not consider myself all that insecure and normally would not care what my about such things, but I have been a member of AW for more than three years, and I check on the boards quite regularily. That does not mean that I post all the time though. Since I rejoined with everyone else last February when we came to this great new site I have only had maybe 20 posts. At the same time, under my name in my posts I am still considered a "Esteemed New Member"

Now, I don't mind being esteemed, don't get me wrong, but I am hardly a new member. . . what is there to be done about this?

Oh shucks,

Weren

What there is to be done about it is probably to write a note just like the one you did. I'm pleased to re-make your acquaintance, and to remind us all that "esteemed' is pretty good, all things considered.

Maryn, who's been called a lot worse

Between a rock and a hard place.
Go pad your post count like the rest of us fools, once you get to 50 you can call yourself whatever you like. As you can see, I am not considered post shy, I've only been a member for 4 months.

Gee guys, that good advice and all. Pad your posts. . . well. . . gee. . . how about this. I will put a post here saying "Gee guys, that is good advice. . ." From what I have seen around here in the last couple of years I do believe that is the way it is done, am I right, or am I right? Then when the next person responds to me, I shall write a three word post saying, "well, I believe you bring up a good points. . . uh, thanks for the advice"

I will be up to thousands of posts in no time flat.

Oh, By the way. . .

Thanks for the Advice

Weren

You're welcome. I expect a reply--we're gonna drag posts out of you if it comes to that.

Maryn, grinning (nice dimples, no?)

Gee Maryn, your so sweet. You want a reply then huh? How about I tell you a short story.

Yes they are nice dimples hun, who could resist. . .

Oh well, so the story is this. . .

Once there was a young man who grew up in Southern Maine. . . as a young man he looked around himself and saw that Maine was ripe with writers, and not only that, they were successful writers. He even went to a haunted house at Steven Kings house when he was just a wee lad. His mother was somewhat of a writer (a copywriter for L.L. Bean before publishing kids books for them. . the Adventures of L.L. Bear) and at the same time his mother always pushed him to read and write and tell stories, and as a kid he never got in trouble because he was the best darned liar in the town. He could spin a yarn so believable even the person who was being falsly blamed ended up believing that they were the ones in the wrong them entire time.

After that he moved to Virginia, near a most prominent university and realized that he had jumped from once place known for creating writers to another. He looked around and realized that as a young chef the patrons of his restaurant were people like John Grisham. . . so again he was put in a place with lots of literary influences. After years of debauchery and futile attempts at this and that, he decided to be serious and started writing for real.

I do not know why I tell the story like that, but you wanted a post so I gave you a gosh darned post. . .

Oh yeah, that reminds me. . . I once snuck into a movie with Jon Grisham's son, Ty. We all bought tickets to see the sixth sense, and none of them beside me were old enough to see a R rated movie. . . so instead of seeing sixth sense we snuck into Detroit Rock City. One of the lamest events of my life, but funny in retrospect.

I still hold you in esteem, Weren. Beats being held in a cage, no? Now, about that debauchery--tell us everything!

Maryn, who never snuck into the movies with any famous person's offspring

There is too much to tell Maryn. . . but let me put it this way. . . have you ever seen the show Kitchen Confidential? Well, I haven't but I hear that it gives a slightly played up version of the trouble that chefs get into. Perhaps you have worked in the service industry yourself, you would have an idea of how we behave when the customers have paid their tabs and are gone. We drink, we do "things" that other professions only do on the weekends when they can pull themselves out of their cubicles and gather their friends and colleagues for a night out. . . we do it all the time.

Hemingway looks sober compared to us.
