I write short stories, novels and I have a blog. I want everything I write to be pleasing to God. I consider myself a bit of a writing missionary because many of the people who read my stories don't believe.

Hello Celesta! I don't write Christian fiction as such (some of my good guys use Very Bad Words, do Very Bad Things, and the morals of the story are not necessarily biblically based), but I do hope everything I write is in the end uplifting or enlightening in some way. And if not I hope it's at least entertaining without being at the expense of others. In each of the three books I've written/am writing, I have at least one devoutly Christian character and in each case he or she is presented as solid. When the baddie in my WIP gets born again, I present his hypocrisy as something about him and not about faith itself. Even when I am critical of certain religious things, I always try to do so in the spirit of tolerance.

Hi, Celesta! For all intents and purposes, I am a Christian. I don't write Christian fiction, though. The majority of my Christian work is poetry.

But I think religious beliefs, whatever they are, do influence a person's writing, whether it's actually dubbed religious or not.

That's beautiful! May God grant you every encouragement and publication (if that's your goal). It's tiresome some of the material that's out there in fiction. I write/read fantasy and science fiction. Glad you're on board!

Glad to meet you. I've hoped I've written in a way that would be pleasing to Him. My main character in a since falls from the light but returns to it, but strugles with the concept that you can never fall too far from God that He wont forgive you. God Bless you and welcome.

Janelle, I often quote Corrie ten Boom who wrote, There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper still. It seems to fit your character rather well.

Celesta! How wonderful, that you're pouring yourself out for God. My guess is that He is pleased!

Like Chris P, I write hard-edged stuff (crime fiction), but try to portray at least one Christian character in each book who is emotionally healthy but realistic. That's what I'd like to see more in secular fiction, instead of "the Christian is always the bad/morally relative/hypocritical guy."

Hi Celesta,

I write inspirational plays.

I also produced and directed a couple of them, and they have been performed (by drama ministries) in various churches along the east coast for almost 30 years.

An invitation to accept Christ is always given at the end of the play, and I've seen a number of people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus over the years.

I'd like to think that God is pleased.

Just want to apologize to the OP. I don't even remember what I said to get my post deleted, but I certainly didn't think it was hostile either, but if I offended anyone that read it, I'm sorry. Didn't intend that.

I think whatever makes you feel good about writing, go for it! And if you want to write inspiring works that will please God or that is pleasing to read, more power to you.

I want my writing to please God as well. I know when something is not right and i should change it. He has a way of letting me know.I do not get preachy, or anything like that with it. Theres just a message about how God works everything out no matter. Right now I am struggling with a scene. . I put that in its own thread. Nice to meet you.

I have written some overtly Christian material - poetry, devotionals, an Advent devotional, a children's book - but most of my work is spiritual or informational nf. I've been feeling pulled toward fiction, though...will see where it goes. I think God is pleased whenever we seek to serve.

Originally the book I wrote was a nonfiction memoir about how I was sucked into the Chicago underworld as I fought for my mob-dominated union. Every publisher turned it down. I then listened to that inner voice that had been telling me to write what was in my heart. The book then became a memoir about my self-perceived righteous cause that collided with my inner faith. That book was picked up by the first (Christian) publisher I sent it to. Did I set out to write for God? No. But something (Someone?) pulled me in that direction.

I write mystery (yeah, well, I guess the first thing that's published is actually labeled as inspirational romance--but there's mystery in that too).

I've found it's becoming increasingly popular in mysteries to have the villain be someone of faith. I guess hypocrisy is trendy right now.

I've taken that ball and run with it, and have a few hypocritical villains of my own, but like to contrast them with imperfect heroes of a genuine faith.

My thoughts are that people always see the wolves and the hypocrites, but the don't always see the genuine. If I contrast them in my story, maybe faith will become more evident...

That's the plan, anyway.

True story.

Many years ago a top TV evangelist, who shall remain nameless, threatened my husband and my life. Scared the you know what out of us as we were 'young' Christians at the time. Less than two years later he was divorced and lost that ministry. His Church numbers were in the thousands.

I see he is still a minster and has a small following doing his own thing. So as far as a villain being a 'Christian' ....I have no problem with it.

The way I see it is that if a plumber/TV repairman/doctor or anyone else could be a bad guy, then so could a person of the 'cloth'.
