Anyone read the books? I'm sure many of you have.

Just ordered the first book on Amazon, due to arrive soon-ish. Any impressions, anything I can expect out of it? :)

Haven't seen the HBO series but I was intrigued because of all the hype surrounding it.

I'd really like to talk about the latest book, A Dance with Dragons, but it only just came out and I don't want to spoil anybody in the ongoing George Martin threads. Is there a spoiler thread for A Dance with Dragons? Anyone mind if I start one?

I would give it a month or so. I have my copy but I am finishing up book 4 and with not get to ADWD until next week. I am sure there are others who would join the conversation, but don't have the book yet.

Give it time...

I just purchased it and I am about to snuggle in with it. The buzz I have seen has been great and the fact Robert Jordan endorsed it when he was alive is a big plus for me.

There is a spoiler thread already for ADWD; I'm pretty sure it's right here in the AW Bookclub forum. :)

My brother just finished the latest one and keeps telling me how I should start the series~ so I'm going to go borrow GoT from him this weekend. :)

Being a traditionalist I really wanted to read the first novel before seeing the show. But alas, I got too far behind with other novels and finally caved in to the peer pressure. After watching half of the first season of the show I actually gave up everything I was currently reading just so I could start reading this. I'm now glad I did!

The spoiler is that the book is a giant disappointment...

which is too bad. That a series could start off so brilliantly and then fade away into mediocrity :(

i'm done with the series unless someone I respect tells me that ADWD is worth reading.

Umm, how do you now it's a disappointment if you haven't read it?

I admit, Feast was not up to par with the rest of the series. But ADWD is significantly better than Feast (though, admittedly, not quite as good as the first 3 books.) It's definitely worth reading, if you're a fan of the series.

I'm around page 100 right now, I have to say I'm enjoying it and I really like the interwoven lives of everyone in the GoT universe. Gonna dig some more and provide impressions at the end of the novel.

I'm talking here about the first novel, A Game of Thrones.
