Hey folks. Some of you will already know about this but some won't so I feel like it's a good thing to add to your toolbox: if you are published/self-published and selling your work in Nook and Kindle formats, you may come across friends/family/contacts that tell you they would buy your work but they don't have a Nook/Kindle. Make sure that you remember to tell them that they can not only view it on their PC with the free software provided by both Amazon and B&N, but that there are applications for smart phones (also free) that essentially turn the phone into a mini Nook/Kindle.

In other words, if you hear the reasoning that somebody hasn't made the conversion away from paper yet or anything similar, you should have something in the back of your mind to remind you that anybody with a PC (w/internet, of course) or smart phone ("") can buy, download, and read your books. (I'm not going to spend time in this post going into how you can convert files for other readers, but that is also worth mentioning; the bottom line is that just about anybody can buy your Nook/kindle/other formatted books and read them). My 2.

You should also bear in mind that not all of your family/friends/contacts will want to buy your book and might be using "I don't have a Kindle" as a way to avoid telling you that.

It's a good idea to know your stuff when you have something you want to promote: but talking your target market into an uncomfortable corner is a very bad sales technique.

Seriously, hitting on friends and family one-on-one to buy your books or via direct mail is not professional.

It's lame.

Good tip, Splendad, and not just for promoting your own work but the promotion of reading ebooks in general.

The lack of a color Kindle has kept me from purchasing an ebook reader (I buy all of my books, and a lot of other things, from Amazon.com, so the color Nook is out of question) I only found out very recently that you could read ebooks formatted for the Nook and Kindle on PC software, which I like because it means I now have the option of getting the ebook version instead.

I only learned a few months ago about how many apps are available for the different ereaders. It might help if writers mention this on their author web sites when they talk about their books. A lot of people don't realize all the options they have for reading.

Good point. I may not mention it in direct sales to family and friends, but I think I will include it on my website.

I was considering going with Kindle for my next book, but I thought only Kindle owners would be able to read it. This is good news.
