I love myths. I'm not going to restrict it to a certain region or type of myth. It can be any ancient myth. You have to retell a myth in a modern setting. Be playful, be creative, be scary and let your plots twist. 3000 word limit.

As a side interest, I'm running a book on how many Loch Ness Monster stories we get.
Nessie stories, better be real good ones because she gets cranky. And don't talk about her weight, she's sensitive. Last writer who made fun of it, learned what sushi feels like.
I saw Nessie once, too. She asked me if I had three fitty.

I'm doing my research on this one and I find it frustrating that so much American folklore is just that--folklore. Mythology has to be belief behind it and we come from the Age of Reason.

thanks, DL...I've seen only 1 of those. I've been reading up on Greek mythology as of late. Lots of tough-luck cases.
Enjoy, sometimes it's just a matter of where you look. Research is one of my strong suits. I had some others posted and someone else had a few too. But they went poof. I blame the sheep.
It depends how you look at it Ted. I could write a story about Colton Harris-Moore and turn it into a myth. Or Bonnie and Clyde or Sid and Nancy and do the same thing. To me a myth can be timeless or speak to a generation.
Really? Because I was thinking about one way to go with it and I was told that it was more folklore than mythology. To me, the idea of The Crossroads and Tommy Johnson using HooDoo to make a deal with the devil to play guitar seems more mythology. I mean, The Crossroads, not Tommy Johnson.
I agree with haggis about creating our own.
I would say your story idea sounds like a myth, it is one that has been told many times, and one I personally love.
Oh, exactly. Tommy Johnson made the deal. I'm saying that deals with the devil are a deep part of American mythos.
Devils are in many myths. Even ones where someone sells their soul.
Blues are truely American. The myth of the cross roads and the devil is old, but it still resonates. It can be set at anytime. There have been and are many variations to explore.

Do you consider the legends of King Arthur 'myth'? This prompt brought an interesting concept to mind intertwining with that one, if that's an okay route.

I've written 3 scenes 4 versions each. Not coming out the way I want but it will get there. How to work in the 4 dwarves has been a challenge. Is anyone else working on the prompt?
