Is the "PAGES" word processor which came with my new IMAC ok for Novel and Short Story work & also for submitting? If not what do you suggest? Thanks. Jed

You will want to Save As Microsoft Word or .RTF but it should be OK.
Make sure that you have the full version, and not just the demo version.

Well, Pages can't natively save to .doc or .rtf. I just save documents in it's native .pages format and then export to .doc and .rtf (or .pdf for non-writing-related stuff) when I need to share a document. iWork is all I've been using for the last four years.

Sure it can.
File --> Save As--click the Save Copy as Word box
For .rtf, .doc or .pdf or epub
File--> Export --click the format you want-->Click Next-->click Export

That's not really natively saving as Word, it's just saving a copy or exporting. No matter what, the master version you edit will still be the .pages format. But yeah, it's easy to get a copy in any other format.
