Hey guys, I'm new to twitter but I'm wondering if there is anyway to be notified when you are mentioned in tweets? like @(name). I've checked my notifications and I only get emails when someone follows me.

Yes, go to your profile name on the top right, then settings. Click on notifications and choose which actions you want emails for.

I've only got mine set up for DMs. I get so many @-replies I'd be inundated with messages if I was notified for all of them, not to mention new followers every so often.

I ticked every box in the notifications tab, then had four twitter friends send me messages, reply to my tweets, and mention me in a tweet and I got ZERO notifications. :(

Smartphones will notify you when you get an @ automatically if you use one of the twitter apps.

Apps are the way to go. I don't even get emails for some new followers, have to track them down myself (I inspect every one).

Seconded. I adore Hootsuite, not the least because it allows me to manage several twitter accounts at once while seeing my @replies and DMs broken out for each one.
