While searching for book bloggers to review my thriller, I realized that bing and google searches can be overwhelming and not very useful.

Here are two that may help you find a book blogger to review your book.

The first I found on Dave Gaughran's site (thanks Dave).
1. http://www.simon-royle.com/indie-reviewers/
2. http://fyreflybooks.wordpress.com/about/book-blogs-search/

The first lists bloggers that review all sorts of books. On the second, the fyrefly site is massive and I didn't see a way to search it.

If you have addresses for book bloggers that review thrillers, I'd appreciate the suggestion. And hopefully these sites may get you started on your own search.

Let's trade some links and help each other out.

You might also want to check out the topic in a Twitter search. There are some Fabtastic book bloggers on Twitter.

I would also contact bloggers with a connection to some of the topics or issues in the mystery. For example, maybe your protagonist is a nurse -- check out a few nurse bloggers. Or it has a baseball theme -- go after baseball bloggers. You could do some interesting Q&As about why you selected the profession, or setting, or issue, or whatever.

Cheers,
Sandy

Sandy, that's a good idea. I need to expand my search and your idea may be the way to do that.
Today I'm searching the indiesfreviewers site Dave suggested and working my way through one by one.

There are thousands of review blogs. But it would help to know: is it self-published and is it available only as an ebook? Because that does narrow things down a bit.

I'm about to self pub another ebook so hopefully I'll find some new sites to add to our list here. Maybe we can build this into a helpful list for other writers to use. Thanks to all who contribute.

When you find a book blogger, do you just send them the file for the book? Or do you ask them if they'd be interested in seeing it? What's the protocol?

Different book reviewers demand different formats, so it's best to either check the blog / forum where they review, or ask them directly - most are open to digital, but there are some hold-out's who only review hard copies.

Ask first, unless specific "This is what I want" instructions are given on the blog. Don't just email someone an ebook without confirming that they want it. Ever.

Because when a bunch of people decide to do that all at once, it can hose your email address while you sort it out with your ISP. Ask me how I know!

In addition to the above wonderful tips, I often browse the list of blogs that my favorite bloggers follow. They sometimes (not always) are also open to receiving review copies form authors. If their blog doesn't have submission guidelines, a polite query will usually answer the question (especially if the answer is no reply!).

Display site and writing groups are a fair bet, but you WILL have to participate and show at least a passing general interest in all those around you. Get involved in discussions that you are passionate about--make friends, share books and stories.

And...drop your price as far as you or your publisher can stand it, especially with an e-book. You can go so low that Amazon will balk, but you can find a comfortable medium. It will make a tremendous difference in your rank, and kick sales up somewhat. Ask me, I've just gone through this.

Good luck,

Tri
