Greetings and some questions...

Hi everyone,
I'm glad to be on board. I'm relatively new to the freelance thing, so I have a lot to learn. For example, when should I send a cover letter along with a query? I am sending some queries to The Philadelphia Inquirer, and I'm not sure if I should include a cover letter with them. If I don't include a cover letter, what should I include as background information in my query?

Hello JB, and welcome to the Cooler. As far as my experience goes, nothings has to go formal. I should just send out a query letter, and if the addressed party is interested, they'll ask you for what they need from you.

Check where you want to submit for their guidelines. Some want cover sheets others do not.
