Huh. A little on the formal side, but it works, I suppose.

Hiya. Matt Maxwell here. New guy, just getting my head around the place.

I've been on-again off-again writing for too long a time now. Done a number of other things as well, like 3D animation and visual effects for television (not as exciting or glamorous as you might think), taught about sociology and the sociology of death in my college days, filed tax records for the federal government (much less exciting and glamorous, etc etc). Most of the time now I'm a husband, dad and writer, even for the day job, though I'm under NDA for most of that stuff.

I've written a few things that have seen the light of day, namely the western/horror graphic novel series Strangeways and the recently-published fantasy novel Ragnarok Summer. I've also got a short story collection entitled Tug on the Ribbon and Other Stories (the title story lauded by none other than William Gibson himself, if not briefly via Twitter) and a compilation of my comics and media-related column Full Bleed, which has run since 2003 in various incarnations.

There's a quick list at my Amazon page including samples for those of you who have Kindles et al. Ragarok Summer is also available at Smashwords, may port some other work over there as well.

Currently I live in northern California, though I was born in SoCal and lived there most of my life, split between Orange County and San Diego with a short stint up in LA. I spend an awful lot of time keeping the kids in line and picking up after whatever critter the cat has dragged into the house, particularly now that it's warmed up.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Hi, Matt, and welcome. There are a lot of parents on the boards, self included, so you're likely to get lots of understanding.

I have a good friend who did 3D animation (VeggieTales), and yeah, it is so not glamorous work.

Good luck.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. Probably won't get me into a share your work forum/thread for some time. I'm bashful like that.

Don't get me wrong, Allessandra, the work was engaging and always a challenge, but the production schedules were murderous. Producers want the Mona Lisa when they have the time and budget for paint-by-numbers. But it was ever thus in most on-demand creative services.

EDIT to say that I prefer popcorn with lots of butter and salt, but since I'm in the shape I'm in, I don't do that very often. But when I do, I don't do the fake butter thing from the movie theaters. That stuff is plain nasty.

Very kewl. I've got a special penchant for the short story "Johnny Mnemonic."

Welcome to the forums.
