If a short story first appears in a podcast, audio only with no print companion, wouldn't the story have to be submitted only to markets that accept reprints?

Do you think it would be worth submitting it to a chosen market that doesn't necessarily accept reprints, but with the explanation in the cover letter that it was recorded as a podcast but has never been printed?

I'm thinking it would go to reprint markets, but that doesn't feel entirely right. Maybe a quick query to the preferred market asking if they would be interested in a story that had been podcasted but not printed?

How would you handle it?

Thanks in advance for your views and/or experience with this type of situation.

My understanding is that the story would be considered published, and not generally accepted by markets that do not accept reprints. I'm not an expert though, so hopefully someone better versed in this will be along soon to provide a more comprehensive answer.

I think it would be what Alex suggested, but I imagine some markets might take a different view.

I'm thinking along those lines, too. Though I guess it really wouldn't hurt to query some markets and ask them how they feel about it. Never know.

Thanks, guys!
