I liked that article very much. I admit I have been through a couple of scenarios described by the author.

Hmm, I notice there's nothing there about not emailing the editor and telling them you threw your contributor copy away because the magazine got your name wrong.

Yeah, is that mandatory, or forbidden?
I need to know.

Lol.

That's one more exciting thing placed on the forbidden list.

*sigh* what's the fun if you can't hurl abuse?

It is easier these days. Most lit mags have samples of their author's work online, so you can get a good feel for most magazines without leaving home. Or paying $6 for one issue, or subscribing for a year, esp. if you don't know if you'll even like what they publish.

There are many lit mags out there, some far better than others. I got two stories pubbed by two diff. lit mags by reading the online snippets. I get author's free copies. And yes, if I do like the magazine, I'll buy a copy or two.

I'm pretty sure rejections quicker than 21 minutes were sent out in the good old days of NFG. People complained.

I have to thank you for this, folkchick! One of the few articles of its kind that left me chomping at the bit to submit more -- and better!
