About two years ago, I seen the previews for "The Da Vinci Code". I've been waiting and waiting for it to come out. So I looked it up, and it said it isn't to be out in theatres until 2006. What's the deal? And I could of swore Julianne Moore was to play Sophie, instead it's someone I haven't even heard of. Am I losing my mind? (Second thought, don't answer that).
Anyone know any specifics on this?

Here's a little bit about the actress I think you are refering to -
French actress Audrey Tautou (AMELIE) has been selected to play the coveted role of Sophie Neveu in THE DA VINCI CODE movie. The film is being directed by Ron Howard (A BEAUTIFUL MIND) and Tatou will star opposite Tom Hanks in the mystery/thriller.
Neveu is a vital character in Dan Brown's book. It is the murder of her grandfather in the Louvre that begins the story, uniting the French cryptologist with American symbologist Robert Langdon (Hanks). Together the two uncover clues that hint at secrets held in the shadows of history for two thousand years.
This would be Tautou's highest profile movie role to date. She was propelled to international stardom by playing the title character in AMELIE and can currently be seen on the screen in A VERY LONG ENGAGEMENT.
French actor Jean Reno has also been cast as Detective Bezu Fache. Filming is slated to commence around summer 2005 for a May 19, 2006 release.
If you go to the website www.cinescape.com (http://www.cinescape.com/) they have a section called DEVELOPMENT HECK where they track films that are in production. They have a number of articles that show where this film has gone on it's path to the screen.

Cool, thanks!
I never imagined Tom Hanks as Langdon, I was hoping more for a sexy frenchman. :)
Oh well, Tom Hanks will surely give it his all, and if Ron Howard is directing it, it's bound to be a great film. I just hope it's as great as the book.
Thanks again.

I personally would have liked to see Harrison Ford for the part.

I just read the article on it at Cinescape. There were originally four actors up for the part. Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, and Hugh Jackman.
George Clooney would of been my first pick. I can see him as Langdon.

I imagined Clooney as Langdon when I read the book, and Reno as the French detective. Well, at least I got one of them right!

I don't know why, but when I was reading it I envisioned Tom Jane from "The Punisher" as Langdon, and and Hector Elizondo from the "Princess Diaries" as Bezu. I can't remember who I envisioned Sophie as, maybe it was Julianne Moore. :)
