A couple of months ago I started a new blog to host what I had hoped would become a short serial written from the perspective of a habitual murderer. Unfortunately graduation and the unrelenting army of homework that precedes really got in the way.

Despite the stasis it put my updates in, this may have been for the better, because it's given me the opportunity to step back and think "wow, what a mediocre piece of crap."

I'd like to continue the story, as I need to actually finish something for once in my life, but I don't want to continue pushing out the same level of not-quite-good-enough-yet. Unfortunately my friends, even the ones who write, aren't exactly the best critics in the world. They seem to hold me up as some holy grail of literature, which I clearly am not, and I need somebody, or somebodies, to punch my stories in the face and rip out their teeth so I can craft a better sent of dentures.

I'm going to keep the first entry as it is, but I would really appreciate if someone out there wouldn't mind looking at my subsequent entries (not all at once, I want to approach them one at a time) and help me stop sucking.

The blog can be found here:

If you want to make me cry at night, you can e-mail me, message me, post on the blog, or y'know, just reply in this thread, because I'm probably going to be checking on it every half hour anyways.

Okay, my turn to take a hit for the team: No.

See, we have a rule that we want members to have 50 posts before seeking critique. This isn't because we're big meanies (well, except me) but because we'd really like to get to know you and have you be a part of the community of writers here--all before you ask anything of us.

As AW became such a popular site, we've had way too many people who come here seeking critique, get what they want, and never bother with us again. That's not why we exist, so now we attempt to squelch that.

So pull up a chair--don't mind the cat, she loves everybody--help yourself to a muffin, and get comfy. While you're racking up your fifty posts, how about doing some critique for others? That's a real good way to ensure you receive critique of your own work.

Maryn, who would never make you cry at night (I'm strictly a daytime person!)

Welcome, Kriven. Do please read the Newbie Guide and if you choose, start an intropost in the Newbie thread (top of the main forum page).

Don't get too attached to the cat (this is Horror, after all) and it's best not to ask what's in the muffins. Trust me.

In general, members won't click through to blogs asking for crits. I don't because of the potential for viruses. Nothing like losing everything and spending weeks rebuilding your system to make you gun-shy of links, yanno?

Always glad to see another Horror Hound on AW! Come hang out in the Hounding After Hours thread, and there'll be a Noob-b-q on Friday. Do you prefer to be marinated in red or white wine?
