I need to email my MS. The recipient only accepts doc, txt or rtf. I wrote my MS in Open Office. Saved as otf. Looks fine.

When I saved as the other formats, the MS was horrible to look at or read.

I DO NOT have msword. I have only OO, Wordpad and Notepad. Help me. Please.

Can you email me the file at [email protected] and I'll convert it to MSWord and send it back?

And you're not stupid. Trust me, I know stupid.

Stupid is the use who let her toddler shove a pop-tart in her disc drive.

Wait! Will that be a txt, doc or rtf?

I think she meant for you to send her the original .odf file, and she'll convert it into a non-mangled .doc or .rtf for you.

As background, the more recent versions of Microsoft Word on Windows or Mac have native ODF support, so loading the .ODF in Office and saving it out as an RTF or DOC will probably produce somewhat less mangling than loading in OpenOffice and saving as a DOC from there.

I just want to say that I am glad Medievalist helped you and no, you are not stupid. On the contrary, there's a saying that goes "Smart people ask for help". I saw it on a poster in my guidance counselor's office when I was in high school and that saying will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Since I am also using OO I am curious what went wrong. I just did a "save-as" as a different file type and it worked for me (at least it looks like it worked). Could there be something wrong with your OO?

For, the record, the .otf filetype is something I haven't seen since the 90s. Yes, I had to a do a double take because I thought I was seeing a typo. There's nothing wrong with the default LibreOffice (former OpenOffice) .odf filetype, and I don't think the OP would have had any issues with an .odf. An .otf is a different story. I'm not very sure that it has been fully supported in the last couple of years.
