I've never written any YA, but I know it's the HOT genre with Potter, Twilight, etc. I was wondering since it's geared to young adults does that mean there's little swearing or graphic topics? I would assume so, and I have no intention to write any for that very reason. I'm just curious what people who do write in the genre think, and what you think is too racy, etc.

Always a good idea to read the stickies before posting a new thread. 
And after you read the stickies, go and read lots and lots of YA novels. You'll see that there's lots of swearing, lots of violence, lots of sex. So, if your characters do these things, that's fine. And if not, that's also fine.

If you're not reading the genre, you're not going to have a good idea how to write the genre. And I mean all sorts of books in the genre, not just the big ones.
If you're writing it just because it's popular and not because you actually want to write it, you're probably not going to do as well as if you would if you were writing something you're passionate about. It will show in your writing. And by the time you finish the book, who knows what will be popular?

What Sage said. Besides, Harry Potter isn't YA. It's got crossover appeal, but it's Upper MG. And Twilight is known for being the mildest YA book around.
Try About a Girl, Living Dead Girl, Boy Toy, Looking for Alaska, Such a Pretty Girl, Speak, or Will Grayson, Will Grayson and you'll see that YA covers pretty much any "racy" topic. And then there's the thread that Rhoda Nightingale linked to for more. It's a pretty diverse genre.

If you have no intention of writing any, than I think your choices are either to read some YA or ignore it completely. Either one would one solve your problem.
