If I take a picture directly from the internet and load it into my Photobucket account would it then be safe to download that pic to my computer from Photobucket, or do I still run the risk of a potential virus?

Thanks

Does your security software not run a virus scan on downloads?

I'm not a virus writer, but I am a programmer, and I'm reasonably sure there's no way to embed a virus in an actual picture file (ie, a file that actually displays a picture when it is opened in a viewing program).

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're dealing with, I don't think you need to worry too much about picking up a virus in this manner.

I agree that image files are basically safe.

Of course, when in doubt, scan.

Thanks

When you upload someone else's image to PhotoBucket, you run some risk of getting hollered at for copyright infringement.

Besides, if you have seen it in your browser, the image has already been downloaded to your computer.

This. You can find the image as a temp file located in a windows file.
