Sea/Water/"The Deep" Related Names

I have a new story idea rolling aorund in my head dying to get out. The problem is the main male character doesn't seem to want to name himself. *grr*

I'd like a name that has something to do with water or cold things. Any ideas? My eyes HURT from searching baby name sites.

I thought of Maren, but my betas think that's too feminine.

Adrian has always made me think of the ocean, probably because of the Adriatic Sea (which, according to the site I just looked it up on, is where the name came from).

If you wanted to be really obvious, you could name him Lake... I had a student by that name, and there's a race car driver with that name as well.

Hmm... that's a tricky one since water/the ocean/sea is usually seen as feminine. I like the Adrian suggestion. Or, in the same vein, how about Caspian (like the sea)? Or Don, short for Poseidon (cheesy, I know). Maybe his last name could hint at the ocean aspect?

I originally thougth Adrian and the betas frowned. LOL It's still in the running, though. I thought of Finn, but that's too obvious, right? Brody is a nod to Jaws. Muwahahahaha

I know the first time the reader meets him, he'll have to explain that he doesn't have a name. The name he'll use in the book will be whatever Sarah, the female protag, comes up with.

Conway (from River Conwy)
Douglas (from the Scottish Dubhghlas, "dark river")
Hadrian (from the town Hadria, which named the Adriatic Sea)
Jordan (from River Jordan)
Kelvin (another river name)
Marin (derives from Latin Marinus, "of the sea") (slightly different from Maren, and it's definitely not feminine, at least not where I'm from)

and of course, River.

Caspian is a good suggestion, but some people might see it and think of the Narnia books.

Ophelia, if your character is named by the protagonist, you might be looking for something fairly simple, depending on Sarah's age? So Finn might be a good suggestion.

I like finn, curious to know why your pro get's to name him lol I have a similar case in my WIP where the MC get's to name someone for about half the book, she chooses the first thing that pops in her head. It's funny.
I agree with the above, that the age of the pro might make a difference in the kind of name she chooses.

Cruz is a great one, too..... but i think the character is more of a Finn. I ditched the naming idea. The first scene decided to write itself differently.
