Do you have any funny or interesting quirks/habits when writing an erotic scene?

Me, I have a habit of laughing. I could be completely turned on by the scene playing out in my head, but while writing it... I giggle. I'm not sure, but it's probably because I'm still not too experienced writing erotic scenes.

I also have a habit of chain smoking... hehe

Anyone else like to share?

I don't think becoming horny while writing a sex scene is really a quirk. Writing sexytimes --> horny? Not that unusual.

Which is to say... I get horny while writing sex scenes.

I cringe when I write sex scenes. Seriously. I always think I'm doing horribly with them, and I'm always asking "Am I putting enough emotion in? Do I have enough sensory details?"

So when I'm writing a sex scene, I usually write one or two sentences, then wander off to check emails or something... takes me about three or four times as long to write a single sex scene as it takes to write the entire non-sexual part of the story.

I get horny. Since I write while Mr. Maryn is at work, I'm on my own when it becomes unendurable. I'll slip away for what we shall politely call a 'nap,' then return to the scene, and soon enough, if it's going well, a second 'nap' may be required.

It can take a long time to finish a good scene.

Laugh? Never. Maybe because I'm fully at ease with it.

I don't get the giggles, but I tend to get very nervous. Like it is my "first time" again. Like I am the one having sex with one of my characters (I usually write in first person, so I am not sure if that is part of it. I feel more connected, not just an observer).

When I write, I like there to be no distractions, but that is especially true for a sex scene. I tend to write those at night when everyone is asleep, so I am can sure I won't get interrupted.

A couple times I have been turned on. Which is weird at first, then kinda cool.

Most of the time I have to be alone to write a sex scene too. I write during the day when kids are at school and bf is asleep.

And yes, I should add, I get juiced up if it's a scene that is really hot and I've never written it before.

I like writing foreplay, with as much of the participants' emotional reactions as possible. It can add to the wordcount, but it just seems to have more zing than a clinical description of the act and the climax.

Because I have some het couples in books I'm working on right now, I'm having to, er, train myself back into getting hot at hetero sex. M/M just lights my fuse much faster.
