Has anyone here heard anything good/bad about it? Has anyone here had any firsthand experience with it?

I go to UWF and I've heard that the film school at UCF is pretty good, considering it's in Florida. They've had quite a few grads in the past few years get films accepted into festivals (like Tribeca). But, that's just hearsay as I haven't met anyone who is actually enrolled there as a student.

But, if you're going to go out of state to film school, why not take the plunge and try to also get into UCLA or USC or NYU?

Well, see, I just found out that my parents are planning to move to Florida once I go to college anyway, so it would really be in state then. And they said if I go in state, they will pay for it. If the film program there is very shoddy, then I could see why it would be worth it to go to a more prestigious (yet more expensive) school, but if it has a decent program, then free school looks pretty good.

(If i can even get into their film school that is.)

 I must admit I have never heard of this one, but at this point I don't recommend signing up 4 any school in the hurricane zone. UNO was a great film school before it was awash and even the workshop i was in for screenwriting in lake charles was useful, but the second storm just about emptied it. U don't need to sign 4 school to deal with that. There's also a good film school in Austin TX, along with the other ones mentioned. If I were U I'd try to work out some kind of deal/compromise with your parents, if at all possible.

UCF is in Orlando, so you're not going to get the brunt of most of the hurricanes. USF in southern FL and UWF in Pensacola (that's where I go) get b!tch-slapped the most by hurricanes.

Orlando gets a lot of rain from most of them, but we usually get the really bad ones up here in the Gulf (Hell, Ivan flattened our whole city).

Anyway, UCF is a pretty good school with a good reputation throughout the South. The film program seems to be pretty good so if you're moving to FL and can't work out a deal to be able to get financial aid and go somewhere else, then UCF would be a great choice for you.

Don't worry about the hurricanes, you won't be in the area that's usually most heavily hit.
