Unusual book structure - could it work?

I just posted a question in Basic Writing Questions that might be appropriate here. I deleted the erotic details for posting in that section. Here's the link, but I've summarized the question below. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6056630#post6056630

My question is about creating a book out of a series of 22 erotic vignettes that together tell a story. Each vignette is more interesting that the overall story; they were originally written as stand-alone stories. As I wrote them, I realized they fit together, so I started writing pieces specifically to make the connections.

As for content, this is the story of a male threesome in a leather (BDSM) household. Two established partners, a dominant and a switch, bring a third into the relationship, a young submissive half the age of the dom. The new arrangement creates some conflicts, such as the “beta” dom (the switch) feeling uncomfortable being punished in the presence of the man who submits to him. (By "punished", I don't mean their regular play scenes, which they happily do together.) The "alpha" dom and the sub find they have a shared past and this knowledge threatens the relationship. Eventually, all three pairs deepen their relationships and move forward as a functioning threesome.

I'd have to force more plot into this to make it more like a conventional novel.

How long are these vignettes? Chapter length? A very short scene? I don't see why it wouldn't work. You might need to expand on some of them, depending on length, and make sure they really do flow into one another so that it reads like a novel, and not little snippets or random thoughts.

Thanks. 1K-6K words each, chapters, perhaps. To work as a novel, there would be a lot of "two weeks later" or "one day, while doing the dishes", or something to connect them. One of my attempts to put two of these together into a coherent story is posted as a free ebook at http://bookworld.editme.com/Free-Gay-Ebooks-2 (scroll down to "The Name Game"). That story used to be two stories separated by a third. The 3K limit imposed on that piece resulted in over-condensing some portions, leaving out informative parts of the story, and artificially adding some details. I'm not thrilled with it, but I've had some good feedback. For length and audience sensibilities, I had to remove a punishment scene, my favorite part, that was almost as long as the entire posted story.

I'd find this format interesting. Time frame references might distract me, actually. Would it be possible to put them on a kind of timeline and show it through seasons or hints of holidays/time of year?

I'd read it. this has my plot bunnies hopping, actually. LOL

It takes place over about 6 months. I appreciate the warning to be careful with artificial time references. Thanks.

I noticed I was rather negative about my posted story. I need to learn not to do that.
