All the zines and so forth that I have submitted to include a cover letter in the submission process. I have always put my name, contact details, the piece's name, word count, and if applicable, genre. Am I supposed to put anything else?
This feels like a dumb question but it has just now occurred to me that I may have done myself a disservice here. Is it supposed to be framed as a letter? ("Dear So and So, my name is XXX my piece is called "Blah Blah"...etc) I always assumed you were supposed to simply state your name and contact details, and basic information about the piece, and any applicable publishing credits. The magazine submission guidelines say nothing if anything about what to include in the cover letter, and I had taken that to mean that I was supposed to put as much basic information as is required and nothing else.
Please tell me I haven't committed a faux pas. Feeling like an idiot here.
