What to write about myself when they ask?

I'm about to submit my first poem to an online literary magazine and am curious, what am I supposed to tell them about myself in the "about you" section? I'm afraid of sounding cocky or pointless.

Where opinions have a distinct aroma.
lol -- just a simple blurb is usually all they request..your name, any previous works published and something general like what you do in life for work or hobby. Think what you tell someone on a first date (and if you're anything like me) then water it down a little...;)

good luck with your submission -- keep us posted.

Some magazines want you to include the bio they will be publishing with your poem, if they accept it, so it's good to look at what other poets have written up. There are magazines online if you don't have a copy of that particular one to check out.

If that's not what they are asking for, I'd keep it business like--any poem or poetry-related publication of a professional level, placing in contests, or maybe writing programs you attended, if you had to submit an application to be chosen.

Less is more in this case, because if you fill it with things not related, it will seem like you're compensating for something. ;)
