So I just submitted a script to the NYTVF-Fox Script competition and got a confirmation that my submission has been sent. The thing is, my submission number is in the tens of thousands, and they say they only accept the first 1500 scripts.

Anyone have any idea if that huge submission number is an indication of how many scripts they've received? or is it just some other number, and since I've gotten a confirmation I can assume I'm within the first 1500 scripts?

There is, of course, a contact email. Should I email them to ask?

I'd e-mail them. I had a question regarding the rules once, and they were prompt and polite in answering it.

(And if you do get an answer to that question, would you let us know? I'm curious too.)

Good luck! I entered the competition in 2009 and 2010; let it get past me this year (unless I can think up and write a half-hour script in a week).

Title for Pilot

Thanks, Manuel. My one concern is that if I email, will I look too eager/newbie-ish?

Also, anyone want to opine about titles? I came up with a few series titles as well as episode titles, but since this would be a potential pilot, should it just be called "Pilot?"

Appreciate the feedback!

At a computer?
Perhaps each year they continue with numbers from the previous year. The first year, they use 1-1,500; the second year they use 1,500 - 3,000; the third year they use 3,001 - 4,500.

Actually, now that I think about it for a moment, if I were running the comp and expecting 1,500 submissions, then I wouldn't bother using any numbers with less than 4 digits, for tracking / organizational purposes.

Yeah, I spoke with a few others and ended up deciding not to sweat it. I haven't gotten any notification that they had already exceeded their 1500 script limit, so I'm going to assume that my submission confirmation means I'm one of the 1500 accepted.

I'd just use "Pilot" for the episode title.

Good luck! Looks like I'm not in it this year (unless I go into a creative fugue state and write a 25-page script in the next two days).

In the future, you might want to attach a "Request Read Receipt" to your important sent messages. The receiver might be kind enough to click on the "Yes" option that automatically returns the confirmation of receipt to you. If the receiver opts to click the "No" option, though, it won't address your concerns.

On or about (today)

The website says finalists will be notified "on or about 6/20/11"

Unfortunately, I doubt I am in the running any longer. The script I wrote was a comedy about a female doctor from LA who did not have the grades to get into a good residency and therefore felt obligated to join a loan forgiveness program to pay her student loans - by serving as a general physician in a rural community.

As of about 2 weeks ago I saw a commercial for a new CW comedy called "Going South," wherein a Manhattan medical resident does not get a fellowship she wanted, and for some reason ends up moving to Atlanta (I think). Personally I think mine was better, but whatever, looks like someone else beat me to the punch, and I doubt Fox would want to do something the CW has already started.

Hart of Dixie

I just saw another commercial for that ... I guess it's called Hart of Dixie, and she goes to Alabama, not Atlanta.
