Hello,

After a year and a half years of lazing a round I realised I will be leaving university soon and I found that in that time of not really doing much actual learning a lot of what I used to do well has atrophied and rusted somewhat, so rather than learning new things what I really wanted to do was go back and take the things I used to do well to the next level. Writing was one of those things.

If fear that more than some of the other things writing has suffered the most. I have written next to nothing not course related since I left high school and my reading habits though still reasonably active are directed almost entirely towards non-fiction (of the 36 books I read since August 8 were fiction and of those only one was a full length novel) where clarity beats beauty every time.

So I came here. Hello all; I look forward to writing and learning with you.

SinK

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Greetings and welcome back to the watercooler :welcome:

Take a wander around the various forums, there's lots to see and lots to learn, and even some fun threads too. Come along and pop on over to the Newbie Pub (at the top of the Newbie forum) and say hi, there's plenty of friendly faces that you can chat with and lots of banter. There's also the Question of the Day threads at the top of the Newbie forum where you can answer random questions.

Don't forget to read the newbie guide, and if you want to know what all the buttons mean check out this thread.

Yeah, college is like that is seems, even from the get go. I am personally glad that I'm not in any English or History classes because I still can salvage scraps of for-fun reading time on the edges of things.

Good luck with getting back into the swing of things!

Hi Lupis,
I don't write Korean-- I use bable fish to translate English to another language.
Welcome to AW. I am new here also and I am amazed at how much knowledge the people here are willing to share. I enjoy re-interpret what I have written in another language back into English.

Goodbye Lupis and I don' t writes the Korean language-- I in order to translate in English with different language use bable fish. In AW illusion. I also [lop] was new from here and made how much knowledge own jointly and the people put out from here and should have been done, all of a sudden does to make surprise. I write in the language where I am different in English again and disaster three i do and i enjoy.

If you think the Korean to English appears to be a weird translation, keep generating each new translation back into the other language.

I'm in England where we only do one subject and since my subject is Biochemistry there isn't a huge amount of writing to do anyways. I do almost all my reading for fun but I find non-fiction simply more engaging on the whole. 'Godel, Escher, Bach: the Eternal Golden Braid' for example is simply magnificent and essay collections from people like Bertrand Russell and Christopher Hitchens are a joy to read.

I recently read 'The Ode Less Travelled' by Stephen Fry though and that was sort of the trigger for bringing me back to some of the artier things I used to do.

Hello SinK and welcome! I've just joined the forums today and I'm also graduating from college in a few months. It's a bit daunting, and though I've spent the last four years studying psychology, my passion lies in writing. Even if my parents think it's ridiculous and a waste of time, I can't give up my dreams!

Hope you enjoy the forums :)

I'm sure there is advice from more experienced people around here but I always figured it was best to consider writing to be a hobby until it was proven to make you sufficient money to live off of. Not so much a case of give up on your dreams as find a way to work towards it without quitting your day job. I'm sure if there was a place to find people who have learned the balance between the two this would be it.

Enjoy the forums yourself.
