My son has been asking me a lot of questions about my books... which I've become adept at sidestepping. He knows it has angels and demons, that the good over evil concept rules the plotlines, but that's pretty much it.

The other day he asked me if my books would be in heaven when he died.

"Why do you think they would be in heaven?"

"Because they have angels. Angels belong in heaven."

Um... They aren't that kind of angel, son. *blush*

I think heaven to him is infinite books for him to read. Just... please God... not mine.

*firmly clinging to the misguided belief little boys will stay sweet and innocent forever**

If there isn't sex in heaven, I don't know if I want to go. Maybe... but really, is that heaven to you?

What Montague said.

I would feel quite confident that there is a broad shelf of high-quality erotica. They're in the "reference manual" section, have been illustrated with high-resolution moving pictures, and by tapping a passage of choice a participant of your desire appears to join you in the act(s).

My young children can't read my work either. *sigh* I've started a middle grade book for them and hope to have it done by the end of this summer (doing it between the writing projects earning money!)

I agree with Montague as well and laughed my ass off at GregS's response. I like your idea of heaven!

I have a 15-year-old daughter who's always irked with me when I tell her she can't read my erotic romance stuff. Especially my upcoming M/M shifter novel. I've told her she has to wait till she's 18 to read any of those.

Since I also write YA, she has plenty of my stuff to read in the meantime.

Now, I'm lost. When I was a teen my mum positively encouraged me to read her collection of adult novels and offered to buy me my first "personal bedroom device". Ahem.

I guess from her perspective, all the adult stuff she had was positivquality stuff- nothing skeezy, and if I was getting my jollies in my own room with high quality porn and a toy, I'd be less likely to be desperately in need of a shit shag in a public loo with some little git that'd tell all his mates afterwards.

Then again, she also taught me how to roll a condom on a cucumber with my mouth so any bloke I was with would have, in her words, "no excuse not to use one". Make of that what you will...

You think that now, and in many ways you'd be right.

But imagine being a 13 year old giggling with her friends in her room, joking about blowjobs when you don't really know what they entail. And your mum walks past the door, overhears and helpfully sticks her head around the door

"you don't blow, you suck."

and carries on walking.

I'm just grateful "red parties" didn't exist back then!

Bunny, now that is weird. It is one thing to say that in front of your own child (if my mom had, I would have had a heart attack), but in front of her friends?? That is out of line, I think.

Back to the OP, my almost 8 year old asks to read what I am writing sometimes. I just tell her they are grown up stories. She pouts a bit, but then lets it go. Not sure how the conversation will go when she is older.

This made me giggle. I'm sorry though! You must have been mortified.

I think it's sweet that the kids in this thread are so interested in their parents' writing.
A testament to parenting skills, no doubt :)
