'Ello to y'all! The name's David Rex Bonnewell, though I go by Dave (or plaid if holding down the "Shift" key while typing "D" gets ya down lol). I completed writing my first novel ("BLEEDER" at approximately 66,000 words) some time ago. After several edits and rewrites, I figured it was about time I seek agent representation to try and find a good home for the beast. As a result, I found myself reading your threads regarding various literary agencies with growing interest. This community provides an invaluable service to be sure! Kuddos to you all and I thank you, sincerely!
So, here's my bio for those of you interested:
"Born a perfect angel in Wilmington, Delaware in 1971, I found my inner demon at the impressionable young age of nine after watching a certain horror movie classic called "An American Werewolf In London". Since then, I have seen and been inspired by countless horror and thriller stories, movies and novels. My writing, in fact, is heavily influenced by heart-pounding horror and thriller flicks from the 80s. Although writing thrilling horror with a dash of tongue-in-cheek wit is my first passion, I have been known to pen the occasional dark fantasy story and even poetry. My “unapologetic” and ever growing body of work speaks for itself, but so does my edgy tale, "A Taste of Italia", winning first place in Black Hound's 2009 'Be My Valentine' flash fiction competition and currently being adapted as a short film! More recently, My short story of innocence twisted, “Mabel D’s Balloon”, won a New Bedlam Project award! In all, I have been published more than a dozen times in print (and without ever self-publishing!) since 2007."
My Facebook and myspace pages (linked in my signature below) display the titles and covers of the books my short stories and poems have appeared in over the years, for those curious about my limited, but steadily expanding creds lol. There are a couple of recent pubs I need to add to the list though. I'll get around to that.
I started my querying "adventure" by sticking with the recommended and highly recommended agencies list on the Preditors & Editors site. So far, I've gotten mostly kind rejections and one request for a full (ultimately a rejection), with about ten yet to be heard from. I'll nudge them soon. I haven't received any suggestions in those rejections other than a fairly consistent "I encourage you to keep trying other agents. You're sure to find the one that's right for this manuscript." I'm taking this to mean there's nothing that needs changing in my query letter or the manuscript itself, yes?
Anywho...this is getting rather long-winded, so I'll end by saying that I look forward to contributing to this fine, fine community of talented misfits. lol
Ttfn, friends 'n fiends!
