I'm looking for a few good Edwardian double entendres, euphemisms and also vulgarities to spice up a little tale. It takes place in Boston though neither character is a native. One is from Bonito, in Avellino, the other was born in Granada, Mississippi, though she was schooled in Boston. Both are educated enough to have read any popularly circulated steamy literature of the age.

I've been reading The Pearl and that contains some suggestive tidbits for writing Victorian sleaze. I might also try looking at Venus in Furs, but I'm not sure of the date of the translation. Does anybody know of any good sources for Edwardian blue language?

An example of a vulgarity is the word gamaruche, a variant of gamahuche. Who would use the former instead of the latter?

Try Edwardian Promenade. They have a glossary of Edwardian slang. The blogger is also on twitter and would probably help out with specific questions.

Lord Likely does look fun!

I used the Edwardian Promenade glossary and took the word barmbrack--she made some for tea-- but I need more. I'm uncertain about frou-frou. It could lead to something, but she is wearing a tea gown in the key seduction scene. I don't know how much frou-frou a tea gown would create. It's a great resource though.
