I have about 7 chapters complete as first drafts. Planning about 24 chapter total and need some feedback on the story and if it seems interesting enough. I welcome any type of critique.

If you like Wheel of Time, my WIP is similar setting but different enough not to be a rip off...I hope.

I was a big fan of the Wheel of time in my younger days, and i've read a lot of other fantasy works. I've been a beta reader for a few others, so I may be able to help.

Epic was in reference to a long dawn out story of sword and sorcery like WOT in genre.
Not that it was grand in nature.
No need to be rude police officer...Geez.

I was not being rude by asking you not to refer to this as epic just yet. You have not even completed the first book, and have decided it is already epic. Wait until you finish and you know where you are going with the story. Things change and writers have even been known to grow bored with a storyline and not finish.

Also, an epic is decided by the readers...

Sorry if you don't understand how that works...

Writers work differently. Whereas one writer may want to hold off until later drafts for beta readers, others like having them early. There is nothing wrong with this.

I also see no issue clarifying upfront that the writer has an epic in mind. Communication is key for successful beta reader partnerships. As you say, thothguard, readers define epic. Perhaps that's why beta readers could be helpful in this situation.

Degan, have you found your beta reader? I am writing in the same genre you are, and would be interested if you are still looking. I would except back and forth though, you read mine, i'll read yours. We could collab through googledocs, or just email chapters back and forth, and/or discuss through AIM. How ever you like to do things, I'm new to this site, so still learning the flow of beta-read ettiquette, haha! But I have been looking for a dedicated reader, and I am a very fast, and intuitive reader at your disposal.

Does the 40K in your title reference the Games Workshop setting? If so, I'd be interested in giving it a look, coming from someone that has been involved in that hobby for years.

While I'll agree that calling something that is unfinished epic might be a bit pre-mature, I can understand how excited a writer can be at that stage. (I know I have felt that same excitement) If you want to work towards writing an epic, then by all means do so. No need to bog yourself down with traditional perception; in the end, it will be what it is. That doesn't mean you can't imagine what it could be along the way.

Hi,

The 40K is in reference to the amount of words I have for the 7 chapter completed. I didn't really mean to call my story epic in the sense it is the best piece of fantasy out there but I meant it more along the lines of a story that will hopefully span into a epic adventure over many books...:)
