Hello, guys.

I am back with another noob question. I just downloaded the new Open Office Suite and I am exploring the features of Open Office Writer. Is there a way to get it to show the word count of each manuscript on the bottom, like Microsoft Word does?

Thank you so much, once again, for helping me. I was going to download the trial of Office 2010 but it needs 3 GB of space as opposed to less than 400 MB of size of the Open Office Suite. Plus I realized that I don't have the money to activate the full version of Microsoft Office 2010 anyway.

Sincerely
Magali.

I don't believe there is, unless there is an extension for it.

You could add Word Count to a toolbar rather than going to Tools > Word Count, but I don't know a way offhand to have it display word count as you go.

There might be an extension on the OO website that would allow you to do it.

I like Open Office. There are a few things I find annoying because I'm used to Word, and no live word count is one. But it takes 5 seconds to click a button, so big deal.

It's so nice to see you again. Thanks for answering my query. I guess I don't mind clicking on the word count button I don't know, every time I finish a writing session? :D Or more often even.

Update:

I just had to trade OO for the trial of Office 2010 because I discovered that OO doesn't have dictionaries of other languages, by default, only Spanish from Spain, and for my Spanish-language WIP's, many of the words that other Spanish-language dictionaries didn't consider misspelled, were marked as misspelled with the Spanish-Spain dictionary from Open Office, so I am going to use this trial for the next 60 days and figure out where to take it from there. Hopefully by the time that the trial is over I will have the money to activate the full version. I just have to write in my native language. Thanks you guys however for your wonderful help. I never get tired of repeating that you guys are the best. I read in Microsoft's official website that the program I am using is $149. We'll see.

Magali.

I've been on Word 2007 for so long I don't remember if Word 2003 had a running word count display or not.

Hey Magali! I've been here, a lot in the Exercises, Games and Prompts threads. It's strange we don't run into each other more often.

Alas, this option not visible in MS Word 2000.

Thanks for the information. Someone is sure to ask sometime and I'd probably have tried to tell them how to do it (to the frustration of both of us).
