I'm thinking of writing a blog post containing some real-life malapropisms. My interest is prompted by hearing about my older sister, doing wedding shopping, searching for the fashionable alternative for a hat; a fascinator. She arrived at a fairly up-market store and said, 'Can you help, I'm looking for a fornicator'.

Any other examples gratefully received.

Modern malapropisms

Heard another good malapropism in the context of sports commentating, while watching last night's Champions League match Real Madrid v Tottenham Hotspur. Ray Wilkins, observing how lucky Spurs were not to give away a penalty, said, 'Spurs really should count their chickens.'

(Er, it's 'blessings', Ray.)
