I'm new to the site and pleased to see Victoria Strauss' novels advertized on the header - if you're reading this Victoria, good to 'see' you again
I am a commercial copywriter - I work for several agencies on a freelance basis. I also work for several SEO agencies creating web content (which is how I got my break).
I don't consider myself to be a 'creative' in that my work is either technical or marketing related - I don't write fictional stories, novels or poetry.
I'm British but live in the US after marrying an American last year - I am expecting my Green Card shortly - a legal alien at last!
I operate numerous websites, but this stems from the SEO side of my business (Big Ridge Media). I do have a personal website which is www.karlhindle.com - this is 'me' so to speak.
I also operate www.keybasher.com which is a free writing jobs listing - I started it as a blog but neglected it for some time, but now it is on its own domain and I publish a daily listing of writing gigs which is something I want to expand on. My motivation is borne from my start in writing, which was as a web writer and I had to pitch for those drossy jobs until I had a portfolio of clients which paid the bills. I got ripped off along the way, as we all do at some point, and I resented having to pay to find work - this isn't much but it is my way of paying something back to a community which has given me so much - after all, I have a career I love and cannot envisage not being able to follow.
I also set up basic websites, which is why I have so many domain properties now - it started out as a curiosity, became a semi-hobby as I was curious given the nature of SEO copywriting, and has developed into something more. I'm not a web coder, but I would say I'm a decent webmaster and my SEO knowledge is excellent.
Before I turned to writing I ran a company in the UK - I sold it in 2003. I have 5 children, including my twin sons, and I am full of anticipation at the moment as my eldest daughter is flying out from England for the Spring Break - can't wait
My work is my biggest interest, especially where it involves social media, and I feel very fortunate to have a business/job I truly love. This is not work for me but I still get paid for it anyway and I don't think it gets any better than that!
Hello to you all and thanks for having me.
Karl
