Alright, so it's kind of a random offer, but when I'm not moonlighting as a wanna-be writer, I'm usually actually working as a zookeeper and animal trainer. I have a pretty good breadth of knowledge about the hands-on and often little-known tidbits about many types of animals--especially North American ones like foxes, wolverines, bears, eagles, owls, hawks, seals and sea lions--and I'd love to give you a hand if you're stuck on something. Feel free to post your question, message me or chat with me on my blog if you'd like some help or feel like talkin' shop! :)

I don't really have an question (nor do I usually write nonfiction), but I have an idea in the back of my mind for a book about animals that I might have to do something with one of these days. Of course, there are hundreds of books about animal in general and even particular species, but I don't think there's one quite like what I have in mind, although I wouldn't swear to it.
I'll keep you in mind if I ever move beyond the "thinking about it" stage.

LisaAnn, that is very cool. What zoo do you work at. Always wanted to be a zookeeper growing up (that and a veterinarian). Ended up being a vet tech though. Love working with animals. Mostly worked with dogs and cats, but have worked with some exotic species and wildlife. It is a great job.

Thanks, Satori1977, I've worked at the Marine Mammal Center in Monterey, CA, Gulf World Marine Park in Panama City Beach, FL, and the Alaska Zoo of Anchorage. (Just moved to Colorado three months ago to be closer to my family, and still working on transitional stuff right now... Currently missing Alaska and its animals like crazy!) One of my zookeeper friends also just moved to Colorado and became a vet tech herself... Seems like there's quite a cross-over between your field and mine! :)

Thank you so much, Soccer Mom! It's my first attempt at entering the world of blogging, and I haven't quite mastered it yet (as is evident by my whopping five followers!), but I'm really enjoying it so far, and I'm so glad you liked it. I'm off to check out yours as we speak... :)

That is awesome! I live in Colorado myself. I have a friend who used to work at the Denver Zoo.
There is definitely some crossover. You can work at a zoo as a vet tech, which I would love to do.
