Has anyone ever heard of someone writing a book for a child?

My daughter wrote the cutest book for a class assignment in sixth grade. Her teacher was so impressed, he had it binded and passed it around to a few other teachers to use as an example.

I recently ran across the story and now that I read it, I loved it.

It's a historical fiction (American Revolution) and the MC is the granddaughter of Paul Revere.

The class was studying the A.R. and she threw in a lot of historical events into the little story.

Since the story is officially hers, I was thinking I could take it from there and expand on it.

It can be a bit of a love story too and can make interesting reading for Middle School age kids.

I know of a play where the mother wrote it based on an idea by her daughter. The mother was credited as the writer, but the daughter was given credit for the main idea.

You probably want to talk this over with your daughter. What happens when she gets to thirteen and wants to become a writer? Is this something she is showing talent at but may never want to pursue? Is this teacher one of her mentors pointing out to her what she's good at? How can you best be her parent and support her in what she is good at? These are the questions you need to answer. When you have answered them together with your daughter you will make the right decision.

Sounds like you're going to have some fun here being a parent. Enjoy!
