Quotation marks around words in a note.

Quick question. MC reads a note that says, "Meet me after school." I know that thoughts aren't written with quotation marks. How about what she reads? Many thanks in advance.

For a short note like that, yes, you should enclose it in quotes. If it were longer (several lines), you could have it stand alone in its own paragraph, indented an extra half-inch.

For things characters read, use the same standards you learned for quoting sources in essays for school. (If you actually remember...LOL!)
