Are there any specific differences between query letters with sample chapters (adult novels or nonfiction books) and cover letters with completed MSS (children's book)? I'm talking unsolicited MSS submissions.

Yes, that would be a cover letter not a query letter. (see "Writing with Uncle Jim" for advice on this. It's in the "Novel" Section) (Hopefully the "Index to Writing with Uncle Jim" will lead you to the discussion on query and cover letters.)You might also want to try putting "cover letter" in the search feature of this webiste on the main screen to call up all discussions on "cover letters".

I posted it here because I wanted specific feedback from Children's writers, but thank you just the same. :)

If you want to write for children. I would definately join the SCBWI. http://SCBWI.com. Their discussion boards are so excellent and very benificial for children's book writers.

Another discussion board for kid writers is www.verlakay.com And it's free. Also www.underdown.org site is terrific for info, as well as www.write4kids.com

I paid for full membership last year to SCBWI and I wasn't that impressed. The boards are okay, but that was it. For the money, I found it not to be worth it for me.

As for cover letters for complete children's ms., short, sweet, and to the point is best. Editors or their first readers will know by the first page of your ms.if the book is worth reading all the way through.

Watcher, I'm sorry if I sounded ungrateful. I didn't mean to. i just wasn't sure if I'd get the same response on the other forum. Thank you for the clarification. :)
