Ok, so it's not a font issue, but I thought I'd give it a go.

My computer is second hand, and runs absolutely fine, bar one issue. Whenever I try to watch something in full screen (no matter how short the video/small the file size etc), it just...chugs, it runs slow, the audio gets out of sync, and I always have to minimise the video to play in a smaller window.

I would think it was a graphics card issue, if it were just games (which I don't know, I don't play anything graphics-intensive, and Plants vs Zombies works just fine) - but my screensaver, the plain old Vista bubbles screensaver chugs just the same as full-screen video. They don't flow around the screen normally, they kind of sluggish go around.

Any ideas?

you should try download and install the latest video card drivers- do you know what graphics card you have?

EDIT* that can affect your screensaver, and even simple things like scrolling text in word and moving a window around your desktop

You might want to run the "troubleshooting" function for your graphic controller.

I don't use Vista, but I assume finding the troubleshooting button would be similar to this:

Go to Control Panel
Click Display
Select Setting tab
Click Troubleshoot
Select "Videos do not work properly"
Run Troubleshoot

If that doesn't work, try:

Go to Control Plan
Click System
Click the Hardware tab
Select Device Manager
Expand Display Adapters
Double click the adapter
Click the General tab
Select Troubleshoot

You may then need to do what ave suggested and load a new driver.

Sounds like lackamemory, a chronic condition brought on by asking older computers to perform newer functions that require more memory than is readily available.

If you know the exact make of the computer or motherboard, you can see if you can add more graphics memory and/or get a new graphics card. They aren't hard to install, and you'll usually notice a huge difference.

If the previous owner did the max possible, no sense buying anything new, so check your specs first.
