I'm looking for any information on a Chris Emerson, not-so-extraordinary Literary Manager - Producer. I've had some pretty unsatisfactory dealings with this guy, and was wondering how he might be thought of in this community.

I don't know him.

But if your experiences are "not-so-extraordinary" and "involve some pretty unsatisfactory dealings," I'd say it doesn't matter what others think of him. All that matters is what YOU think of him.

Check the Bewares and Backgrounds forum and start a thread on him if we don't already have one. Please be careful who you deal with. If he has a website like this and can't name any current or former clients I would never in a million years deal with him.

Sorry about your unsatisfactory dealings with him.

He's listed as being an Exec. Producer of 'Daddy Day Camp' - so he's got some runs on the board at least.

If you are looking for someone to commiserate with - just put this behind you and look forward to the next project.

Thanks you guys. I pitched to the "man" at the Willamette Writers Conference up here in Portland, Oregon; wasted a lot of money and time doing so. I appreciate the positivism. Not looking for sympathy -- just simply wondering if he's treated others as unprofessionally as he has treated me. I've got posts out on Willamette Writers forum, and am going to make complaints to the conference personnel (lot'a good that'll do).

Did he ask you for money, or did he just not seem enthusiastic about your script?

The first is a big red flag. The other - it's kinda hard to blame the guy for you spending money on a conference.

Tend to agree with 8th Samurai. Lots of people, esp in the US, IMHO, will say they love it, tell me more, etc but then don't follow through. As long as you know this in advance you can treat everything properly. If he came out and asked you for loads of money, or to fly somewhere and then he didn't turn up, then that's different and is bad.

Looked at the website. That's actually really typical of major players - if you've spent the time to find them, you get an email. (I work in film. The little players have websites, FaceBook pages, twitters, and lists of things they've done. The big guys very rarely have a searchable email.)

They don't NEED a list of credits and promotions, nor do they need every wanna - be in the world banging their door down.
