Do any of you fine, furry people have a favorite audio hosting site? Of the free variety, I mean.

For the last couple of years, I've done audio interviews for a company and they are closing up shop. I'm free to keep my work and host it on my own, but I have to scramble and figure out where to put my stuff in kind of a hurry.

A bit more information is needed.

How much space do you need?
Do you want to stream your audio files for personal use?
Are you looking to share your files?
Or are you just looking for storage?

Edit: If you're just looking for private storage, Dropbox has a free 2GB account.

Oh! Sorry. That would help.

-2GB would be plenty (I don't know exactly, I have 20 interviews that range in size, but average about 35MB)
-I'd like to stream them, ideally, from a Wordpress blog. If that can't be done a link would be okay

Dropbox does allow you to publicly share whatever files you like, but doesn't offer a friendly way of streaming. It can give you a link to the file, though, so if you click the link, it'll generally play in your browser. If Wordpress offers a friendly streaming wrapper given a direct link, you can use Dropbox to host the file and Wordpress to stream it, but I don't know how to do that in Wordpress.

Tell me if this goes above your head.

First, you need to install this (or a similar) wordpress plugin if you want to stream from your wordpress blogs (as in your readers don't have to leave the page).

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/audio-player/

Second, I'm guessing you have your own webhost (not just domain name)? If so, you can create a folder with a title of your own choice in your Public folder, then upload your audio files by ftp (filezilla is a good free app) to that folder, and then follow the instructions here (http://wpaudioplayer.com/usage/) for streaming your audio files on your pages. If you choose this, make sure the streaming doesn't go above your bandwidth limit.

If you want to use a separate host, check this link (http://www.audiohostings.com/) for free hosts, copy the link from your host, and use the same instructions here (http://wpaudioplayer.com/usage/).

Or you can just use a separate music host that gives you a widget to use on your blog.

http://www.toofiles.com/en/audios-upload.html (I tested this and it provides a widget you to insert into your site.)

There are a lot of audio hosts out there that you can upload your files in addition to these two, so look around, but make sure it either has a link directly to the mp3, or a widget to put on your own site. If it gives you a direct link to the audio file, you can then use it with the wordpress plugin. Or you can use the widget code on your site.

PS- Someone else can probably give a simpler solution. Oh and the main reason you'll want to use a wordpress plugin it'll probably look better with your site and you won't have to deal with ads, your files being deleted, and your files being easily downloaded. If you don't have a webhost to store your files, you can always use a free one (maybe...). http://www.000webhost.com/ is good.

PS 2- You can also use dropbox with the wordpress plugin. Just tested it and it provides a direct link.

Perks, poke me if you want geek help.

Streaming has very specific meaning. If you stream them from your hosting account, you pay the data costs every time someone listens.

Were I you, I'd think about iTunes, and similar options.

Hmmm. Thank you very much, Cuppa. Much of that did fly a little high, but I'm also very tired, so I will look at it again in the morning.

Medi, I may very well whimper in your direction.

I guess, simply put, I was hoping to find an audio equivalent to YouTube. When I want to embed a video from YouTube, I take the code and zap it into place on my blog post. I'm proficient enough to muddle around, and I'll try with the information you guys set up on the buffet. Thank so much!

You could always put the audio into a still video and upload that to YouTube.
Yeah, I thought of that. I still might. I'm gonna get cracking on it here and see if I can make sense of what's available to me.

I love that you guys are here and know stuff.

Ah, I see. I do have my own webhost, but I'm just using WordPress as is (just linking to it) mainly because I have no idea how to host my blog on my own. Touch pathetic, eh?

So, sadly, I can't load up this plugin.
