Not another one...

Yes, another new kid. New to this forum, anyway. It looks like a great place to share a little experience and maybe bounce a few ideas around cyberspace.

My name is Kurt and I'm the kid who never grew up. I run a chain of hardware stores. It's one of the few places where you can work in air conditioned comfort, offer home repair advice to your customers all day long, be everyone's hero, and take their money before they leave!

I have lots of strange ideas bouncing around in my head, and have finally decided to put them on paper. Regardless of whether they ever get published, at least they will be out of my head! I have been working on the rough draft of a middle grade sci-fi novel, and should have it ready for public review in a few months.

I started in the hardware business as a summer job at age sixteen. Back then, our company was a single-store operation, being run by six different family members... not exactly the ideal place for advancement! When I was just getting out of high school, I quit the hardware and did what most Michigan kids did back then, applied for a factory job, and was hired that same day. After a month or so, I realized the factory was no place for me to spend my life, so back to the hardware store I went, hat in hand. By then ANOTHER member of the family had joined the store's work force, fresh out of college with all kinds of expansion dreams. The following year, we expanded the original location. The next year, we purchased another location across town and I was asked to manage it. Since then, we have grown to 26 locations and that young college kid is now on the verge of retiring, and his son and I will be left to fend for ourselves. I suppose the whole ordeal may become a book someday! LOL

The manuscript I am currently wrestling with will hopefully be ready for public viewing in a month or so! I seem to get more done under pressure, so throwing that goal out there might be just the thing to keep me motivated!
